Literature Text

Three months had passed by since your first fateful encounter with your Canadian.

Each day you spent with him was like a dream come true. Every time you woke up and snuck into his room, you were always relieved that he was still there, sleeping. You weren’t a weirdo but you did like to spend some minutes of your morning just looking at his adorable sleeping form and how relaxed his features looked.

You would always question yourself ‘Hmm. I wonder if Mom would like him? Or if Dad would even approve of him? Heck or if my friends would give him the Inquisition?’

Unknowingly to you, he would know that you were there. Since his trusty Kuma always caught you, and you would whisper, “Please don’t tell Mattie, I was here!”

The bear would whisper, “Who?”

“Your owner, Canada.”

But Matthew wasn’t completely innocent either. Sometimes in the middle of the night, he would sneak into your room, and also look at your sleeping form. How had he been so lucky to attract the attention of this girl? Most people couldn’t see him!

His eyes would follow and admire your [h/l] hair cascading down your pillow with your soft [s/c] arms holding another pillow to your chest. He loved the cute expression you had on your features when you had a good dream.

After he had his fill of looking at your vulnerable form, he would double back to his room without you knowing.

With the passing days, you both discovered each other’s faults and interests. One of the best parts you shared with Matthie was when you wanted to kiss on his cheek for making such a great meal one day. Your intentions were pure. Lips to touch his cheek, Matthew accidentally turned his head to say something. What happened next was unanticipated by the both of you.

Two sets of lips contacted each other for a brief two seconds before you and he realized what happened. A flurry of apologies were spoken by both parties until each turned away and blushed.

All was going well. Nothing could interrupt this fairytale,,,, except your amnesia was getting worse.

Everytime you would try to remember your old life, your mind would lose another memory that you tried to recollect.

Pretty soon it got so bad that you were even forgetting the significance of your tanktop and ponytail that your parents gave you. Each represented a part of your life and love. Though you were forgetting family's faces! Realizing that you might even completely forget them, you started crying.

Stuff gathered and tightly hugged around your bosom, you bowed your head. Images in front of you blurred by your own watery eyes.

“I miss you so much! I don't want to forget...”

Mildly you remembered Canada was still in the house, but at this moment you could care less if he saw you crying. There was something wrong. You could feel it; and what was worse was that it was your own brain failing you.

“Remember there is always a price you have to pay when the mirror grants you a wish.”

You sat back stunned. Eyes clearing and flying everywhere in your room, you saw no one was there. About to think you were crazy that same disembodied voice repeated what it said.

‘Is this in my head or is this real?’

“W-Who are you…voice?”

“I am the voice of the mirror you passed through.”

Deep confusion settled onto you. “A mirror can talk?”

“Is it too hard believe? You are in a different dimension after all, thanks to me.” After a short pause it continued, “______, do you miss your parents?”

You answered the question with no hesitation. “Yes! B-but I seem to be forgetting them.” You added sadly.

“Do you want to remember them, their faces, again?”

You nodded before widening your eyes. ‘So this mirror took my memories all along. That jerk!’

“But remember ______, this comes with a price. As it always had been.”

“Y-Yeah, I want to see them, but what’s the price?”

The voice responded back, “The price is all your memories of your old life.”

You shouted, “What? No!” And stood up. “Why do you want my memory? Didn’t you just say that you will give it back?”

“Yes, I do admit I offered that. However specifically I said that I would let you remember them, only their faces. And my purpose of having your memories is none of your concern.”

“Then how about I get to see them again? Please. I can’t forget the people who love- loved me.”

“…”

The mirror seemed to contemplate this and responded, “Alright, fine. You have to go back to the place where you were found and ask to go home. Until then you are stuck here…forever. With your ever fading memory and the life you once lived before.”

Unable to coup with the possibility of letting your past life slip away, you sprinted out of Canada’s house in your fit of passion and quickly ran to the spot where your crush found you.

As you approached the spot, you remembered something. Silently you asked, “I-If I do this will I be able to come back here and stay with him?”

The mirror took a while to respond until it answered with a firm “No.” It saw your retaliation on your face to quickly add:

“You have to choose on whether to stay here with your true love and forget your former life or you could go back to your doting loved ones, but always suffering with the memory that you left your only chance at true love. That is the price you shall pay. Choose wisely.”

You stood there, eyes brimming with frustrated tears. This was the hardest and most hurtful decision of your life! How could you abandon him or your family? They both gave you your understanding of love and happiness.

You fell down to your knees. Anger lead to your screaming. “How can you ask such a thing? You know I love them both! How dare you! You thrive on sadness, don’t you! DON’T YOU?!”

The mirror stayed quiet. Wanting to throw your fist in the air to relieve your frustration, you heard something behind you.

“______?”

You turned around to see your love.

Matthew became worried, “_-____? Why are you crying?” He ran to you and scooped you into his gentle arms.

Sniffling you responded, “Remember when I said, I don’t remember how I got here?”

He quickly nodded.

“Well you see I sort of lied…. I actually came here through a magic mirror.”

He stared at you in disbelief.

“I know, I know it sounds crazy but you have to believe me”. You told him about the mirror, the amnesia, and the price you had to pay if you stayed with him.

His flaxen eyebrows made their way to his hairline. This seemed so impossible. He was about to say something when the mirror interrupted him.

“Are you going to make a decision or not, _____?”

Just then the mirror appeared in front of you, glowing invitingly.

Logic told you this was strange and you were still in a dream. Of course, you knew better.

The mirror became impatient. “Hurry up and make your decision, _____. The door back to your world is closing.”

*WHHHHHRRRRRRR*

This frightening noise backed up its statement while the glow of the mirror started to dim.

“_-_____? What in the world is going on? Why is that mirror talking?” His eyes widened at the sudden realization. “I-Is this the mirror that transported you here?”

“Yeah.”

“Better hurry up, _____.” the mirror said, dimming faster.

“No!” You practically begged, “Please! Don’t do this! Don’t make me choose!”

No remorse was carried in its voice.

“Pick one _____. This is your price.”

Matthew stood up and gently made you stand up with him. You were about to question what he was doing, he kissed you passionately to say, “_-______, I l-love you e-ever since I first saw you in the middle of this p-place.” He looked at his surroundings affectionately as if he was seeing the memory happening in front of him at this very moment. He then abruptly turned to you and grew uncharacteristically serious. “Do you l-love me, ______?”

Your eyes widened and you felt tears going out of your eyes again. “Of-Of course I do, Matthew! I have always loved you, even back then in my other life. I love you more than anything in this world or the next!” You then buried your face into his chest and hugged him tightly. He hugged you back just as hard. He felt warm that his sweetheart loved him back, but he grew sad on what he must do next.

“I love you too much to see you in pain, _{nickname}_.”

You gazed to him confused.

He continued talking as he looked down at you. “I-It’s obvious that you l-loved your family greatly. I want you to b-be happy so I h-have to make m-my own hard decision.”

You were about to inquire what he was talking about when a tear escaped his eye and he yelled, “That’s why I have to let you go!” He pushed you into the mirror leaving you stunned.

As you fell into the mirror, you screamed his name as you once again fell into the darkness.
